This was Nico’s debut album, released in October 1967 by Verve, with stablemates Velvet Underground. The name of the album refers to the Andy Warhol movie of the same name, of which Nico was the star. You might think that Nico was a Warhol Velvet groupie but she was actually a well-respected folk chanteuse who performed with Leonard Cohen and Jackson Browne in NY coffeehouses as well as Lou Reed collabs. This album straddles chamber folk and 60s pop, a simple sound with minimal backing of keyboards or guitar (no drums).
