John Coltrane – Blue Train -LP- Re-Issue
Blue Train was the second studio offering from John Coltrane. Recorded at Van Gelder Studio’s in New Jersey in 1957 (released the same year) Blue Train is the only album Coltrane recorded for Blue Note as a band leader and the only one he wrote from beginning to end (except for the standed “I’m Old Fashion”) for them as a label.
The personnel include Coltrane’s Paul Chambers on bass, Pilly Joe Jones on drums (the two had played on pianist Kenny Drew’s Trio releases) Kenny Drew on Piano. The album also features two up and coming musos trumpeter Lee Morgan and trombonist Curtis Fuller, the two would be members of Art Blakey’s crew, although not together.
An incredibly cool album to throw on your turntable on a lazy weekend or evening. This album like many others we offer on the site are “must have” albums for the collection!
